The Commission for the Education of Graduates in Foreign Medicine in the United States (ECFMG, for its acronym in English) has just released the institutional endorsement to the School of Medicine of the University of Tolima to electronically facilitate the graduation processes Doctor awarded by the institution.
ECFMG, a private nonprofit organization based in Philadelphia, is a world leader in promoting quality medical services serving physicians, members of the medical education and regulatory communities, health care consumers, and those investigating problems in the medical education and health work planning. The ECFMG certification program evaluates whether international medical graduates are ready to enter medical degree programs in the United States, where they provide supervised patient care. It also offers a variety of other programs for physicians around the world and surrounding entities who educate, train, register / authorize and employ them.
Over the past five years there has been a significant increase in the percentage of doctors graduating from the University of Tolima who have been admitted to medical residency programs in countries such as Spain, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Brazil and the United States, this being last is the country preferred by our graduates to carry out their postgraduate studies. Currently, the Medicine program has graduates studying medical residencies and conducting research in world-class institutions such as Mayo Clinic, Mount Sinai Hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital, and others in the New York City hospital network.
To facilitate the approval processes of medical studies and diplomas obtained by our graduates, the directors of the Medicine program and the institution’s Office for International and Institutional Relations have worked hand in hand with the ECFMG in recent months to obtain international approval which now allows access to the electronic verification of the credentials of medical graduates from UT.
This will not only facilitate the verification of our graduates’ diplomas and academic credentials, but also constitutes a great achievement for the program as only a few medical schools in Colombia have such approval, now the UT and the University of Caldas are the only ones of the regional Eje Cafetero authorized for this purpose. Likewise, a large number of UT medical students who have already completed their subject-related training process in the preclinical area are preparing to present USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) Step 1 as the first major exam is known. medical degree approval in the United States and which can also be obtained before the graduation date and once said subjects have been approved.
