Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) faces her last chance to save her dying son Oliver on Coronation Street as she takes the case to court, where doctors say it would be more compassionate to withdraw the child’s life support.
A broken Leanne is with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) in court as they hear Wendy agree with the doctors – but they don’t give up and soon it’s their turn to speak as Leanne begs the judge not to let her son die.
Leanne tells the court that all she wants is to save her son. Steve urges the judge to give Oliver more time because one day they might find a cure. After the hearing, Steve and Leanne emotionally drained go out.
Knowing that today the day the judge announces his decision regarding Oliver, Tracy, Amy, Emma and Simon are reuniting at Number 1 and nervously awaiting the news.
Steve and Leanne sit quietly as the judge makes his statement on Oliver’s situation. He concludes that it is in Oliver’s best interest that his life support be withdrawn.
Since Leanne is absolutely destroyed, she soon regains her challenge and announces that she will appeal the decision and continue to fight until she saves her son. But will Steve agree?
