It’s not uncommon for a manufacturer to launch different versions of its phones in different countries, but Samsung has done something odd with its Galaxy Z Fold 2 for China.
Galaxy Z Fold 2 was launched by Samsung in August of this year. After 3-4 months, it seems that the foldable terminal will arrive in China, but will no longer be accompanied by the Galaxy brand. Apparently, it’s not necessarily popular in that region of the world. But the differences don’t stop there.
The new Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be launched in China under the name Samsung W21 5G. Incredibly similar to the all-new Fold, the device continues a series of foldable gadgets that have been launched by Samsung only for Chinese audiences over the past decade.
Otherwise, we’re talking about the same smartphone built around a foldable 2X Dynamic AMOLED panel with a 7.6-inch diagonal on the inside and a second 6.23-inch Super AMOLED screen protected with Gorilla Glass Victus on the outside. The processing part is provided by a Snapdragon 865+ with 12 GB of RAm, and in China it will only be sold with 512 GB of internal memory.
Almost suspiciously, the Samsung W21 5G is slightly taller than the Z Fold 2, but the battery remains unchanged, 4500mAh with 25W wired or 11W wireless charging. The acquisition part consists of the same 3 12 megapixel cameras.
The main difference between the global version and the one for the Chinese market is that the W21 5G will only be available in a dual SIM version, with space for two traditional, non-eSIM SIMs. Also, the back of the phone is different, golden with some vertical lines that don’t look bad at all. The purchase price is around $ 3,000, more than the standard version. You also have access to a concierge service, as Vertu offered you a few years ago.
