Japanese video game company Nintendo announced Thursday that it had increased its profits by 243.6% during the first half of its fiscal year, a spectacular increase favored by sales of the Nintendo Switch video game console during the covid-19 confinement.
The video game industry has been one of the most favored since the months when people had to lock themselves up in their homes and found in these products a way to have fun and abstract from that difficult period.
Between March and September, Nintendo made a profit of 213.1 billion yen ($ 2 billion).
Its sales increased 73.3% to a total of 769.5 billion yen (about $ 7,373 million).
Following these strong half-yearly results, Nintendo has improved its forecast for its fiscal year, which ends in March 2021, and expects to make a net profit of 300 billion yen (over $ 2,874 million).
It is also hoped to close the year with a turnover of 1.4 trillion yen (over 13.413 million dollars), instead of 1.2 trillion yen (about 11.500 million dollars).
The financial health of “Big N” was bolstered by sales of the Switch and the video game “Animal Crossing”.
Nintendo’s flagship game in 2021 will hit stores in March and allows you to enjoy a world of virtual interaction in an animal village that simulates a social life in which many players have found refuge while in prison.
Nintendo will have to compete in the final months of its fiscal year with the November launch of its rivals’ new game consoles, Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X.
