AP News publishes US presidential election results on blockchain

The Associated Press news agency has released the results of the US presidential election on November 3 on the Ethereum and EOS blockchains.

As noted on the developer webpage detailing how to access its AP Elections API, the results are immutably written to the blockchain by Everipedia’s OraQle software.

While the results are of course also posted on the AP’s website, the use of blockchain-based Everipedia provides a permanent and unassailable record of calls for each state as they arrive.

AP also released the address of the Ethereum smart contract, allowing readers to use block explorers like Etherscan to track results as they arrive.

However, a more accessible version of the results, which collects the results of all the states called so far, is available through AP’s EOS account on Bloks.io.

The 2020 US elections are one of the most controversial in decades, with results falling short in key battlefield states. Nearly 100 million votes were cast in advance, by mail or in person, due to the coronavirus pandemic, much to the chagrin of incumbent President Donald Trump.

The cryptocurrency world is eager to know who will become the next president of the United States and the effect it will have on the markets.

However, it may take days or even weeks before a final verdict is issued. Trump has already made controversial allegations of voter fraud through postal ballots. Earlier today, he threatened to appeal to the Supreme Court to stop the counting of the votes.
