Sayed Sima says he was 25 when he started collecting classic cars, attracted by their beauty and rarity, but also by the fact that they were relatively cheap.

More than half a century later, Sima, a nickname derived from Egyptian slang for cinema, claims to own a huge number of classic cars, some of which are kept in the city where Egyptian media productions are made, where the filmmakers they often rent antiques for shows and movies.

Sima’s oldest car is an Auburn purchased in the 1980s.

“Obviously it is a very rare car, a car that is a completely old part,” he said as he sat in the Auburn showing his wooden frame and steel cladding.

“Your original tank is still inside. It’s a nice car. Its structure is all in wood, ”he added.

Sima is fascinated by the way older cars work.

His 38-year-old son, Ayman, shares his unique passion. He grew up watching his father’s cars in movies.

“I also enjoyed seeing these cars on movie screens. I used to watch a movie and think, oh, it’s our car, ”he said.

Among the famous people who once drove one of Sima’s cars was Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat, whose presidential car was a black 1975 Chevrolet Impala, the collector said.
