Reporter: What does the Mobra brand represent for Romanians?
Andrei Postelnicu: Mobra was everyone’s bike for Romania during communism. There were perhaps hundreds of thousands, millions, I could say, of kilometers, in total, with the furniture that was sold in the countryside, on family trips, on vacation, there were people who even left two on their motorcycles. four horses, with luggage and a tour of the country. So it was used as a means of transport, it was used for holidays and at the same time, because it wasn’t overly expensive at the time and could be kept behind the block, it was also used for daily activities. There are people who have used them for years to work in the fields or to go from one place to another, to work. Also in this period there is a gentleman we see almost every day, somewhere in the Pipera area, who probably goes to work on a Mobra, every day. The Mobra motorcycle was not a very high performance motorcycle, it was a motorcycle that was meant to be for people and which at least now represents a nostalgic brand, which brings back many memories.
Rep.: When do you think production could start?
AP: Our goal from the moment we announced we want to do this is to have a Mobra product on the street in Romania within a maximum of two to two and a half years.
Rep.: Have you already decided where the factory will be? It was initially in Brasov.
AP: The factory is located in Brasov. The Mobra moped had the engine produced at Metrom Brasov and the moped was assembled in the Tohan factory. I cannot give you a precise position now and the reason is simple, objective and commercial: when we have the motorcycle project, with everything necessary for the production of the bike, at that moment we will know what the need for space, people, investments for everything is. what it means to equip a factory. The biggest fear at the moment is that it is difficult to find motorcycle assemblies and sub-assemblies manufacturers in Romania. We want a lot and it is really objective in the business plan, to do the assembly in Romania and produce as much of the motorcycle as possible in Romania. Obviously there will be components, like all major motorcycle manufacturers, that we will use from specialized suppliers, such as brakes. Hardly any manufacturer brakes alone.
Rep .: What will the new Mobra motorcycle look like, will it be in the past or will it have a modern design?
AP: Coincidentally, there is a current of many years in motorcycling, of motorcycle models that, it is said a little too much, carry Mobra, but that have something of the old Mobra line. Obviously there will be an evolution, because we live in 2015 and both from a technical and a design point of view there must be an evolution, because motorcycle customers in Romania are homologated and need a quality product. Mobra was not our very high quality product from the Romanian industry, Mobra was a mass thing. The design will be current, but will keep the lines, the characters of the old motorcycle.
