Scientists have assured in a statement that it is up to the Rafael Rangel National Institute of Hygiene to ensure the registration and conditions of use of a new drug.
“The discovery of an agent with potential active against any pathogen, including SARS-CoV-2 that produces covid-19, is not the same as the discovery of a drug, as has been reported by the government. Development of a drug requires a series of procedures. , from the identification of the agent to the final availability of a safe drug, which can take years and not months, as mentioned “.
This is how the Academy of Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences (Acfiman) reacted to the announcement of the National Executive last Sunday, October 25, on the discovery of a “drug that cancels 100%” the coronavirus through a molecule.
The Academy of Sciences also explained that one of the mechanisms that ensures the review of the rigor of the methods and the reliability of the results is the publication of the findings in scientific journals, but stressed that so far there is no information from any publication in internationally recognized scientific journals referencing the findings described by the Nicolás Maduro administration on 25 October.
The drug is based on the TR10 molecule, which is used as a treatment for hepatitis C, Ebola and human papillomavirus, as well as other diseases. In fact, last Monday, the vice president of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez; and the Minister of Health, Carlos Alvarado, presented the results of the studies to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Acfiman also stressed that although the World Health Organization (WHO) has led governments and citizens on the pandemic, in Venezuela it is the responsibility of the Rafael Rangel National Institute of Hygiene to ensure the registration and conditions of use of a new drug.
So far, the Venezuelan authorities have registered 90,400 infections since the beginning of the pandemic, of which 84,907 have already been cured, according to the government.
The official data of the Executive on covid-19 go against the scientific forecast of the Acfiman which in September predicted a daily rate of 14,000 cases of covid-19 in Venezuela by the end of 2020.
