The secretary of the Supreme Council of the Iranian Cyberspace revealed that various ministries of the government of the country have agreed to encrypt the mines as an industry, according to the local press agency IBENA on 4 September.
According to the report, the Secretary of the Council of Cyberspace Abolhassan Firoozabadi stressed that the extraction of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC) was approved as an industry by the major government authorities. However, the official legislation that forms a legal framework for industry has yet to be introduced in the country.
Firoozabadi claimed that mining was accepted as an industry by major Iranian authorities, including the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies, the Central Bank, the Ministry of Industry , mine and trade, the ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Economics Business and Finance.
Firoozabadi has stated that the National Center of Iranian cyberspace is developing a platform for the regulation of cryptocurrency mines. He added that the government is also considering launching a national cryptocurrency in order to create a financial instrument to cooperate with Iranian business partners, amidst the economic pressure of US sanctions.
According to reports, the secretary said that the competent authorities will introduce a regulatory framework for startups and encrypted companies at the end of September.
At the end of August, the National Center for Cyberspace of Iran revealed that the draft of the state-supported cryptocurrency project is ready, following the instructions of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. At that time, the deputy director in charge of drafting the regulations for Iran's Supreme Cyberspace Council stated that the idea of launching a national cryptocurrency is being actively pursued.
