At the beginning of August Fabio Jakobsen crashed badly in the Tour of Poland. Now he’s back in the saddle.
Almost 4 months have passed since Fabio Jakobsen’s terrible crash at the Tour of Poland. The Dutchman was pushed into the barricades by his compatriot Dylan Groenewegen in the sprint to the finish line and sustained fatal injuries.
On Tuesday, Jakobsen posted a current photo of himself on social media for the first time. It shows the 24-year-old on a bike tour with his life partner.
Light training and further surgery
“It’s been a nice trip so far. I thank all the medical specialists who have helped me in this process », wrote Jakobsen, who will undergo another operation in January. “Until then, I’ll start training slowly again.”
Jakobsen underwent two facial reconstruction operations, among other things. The implants were placed in the jaw so that he could get new teeth. Except for one, he had lost all of them in the bad accident.
Groenewegen, who caused the crash, was banned for 9 months by the UCI two weeks ago.
