SoftwareSamsung is developing the One UI interface in the 3.0 edition and there are some software innovations that are worth mentioning. I specify from the beginning that there are no major changes in terms of the graphical interface if we refer to One UI 2.5, as between Android 10 and Android 11 we are dealing with an evolution, in no case a major change.
1. Long press on an application = displays the widgets available for that application;
I find it more intuitive to tap and hold on the home screen, enter and search the Widget section. Not that there are too many widgets I use (with the exception of the Raiffeisen Bank widget which shows the balance of 2 accounts attached to the banking application);
2. Double tap an empty space on the Home screen to close the screen;
I think LG was the first company to come up with such a feature and it looks like some iterations after Android are being rolled out to Samsung smartphones. You can enable this option in Settings / Advanced Features / Motion & Gestures.
3. The Samsung browser receives several new functions;
Samsung is trying to provide a better user experience when accessing the internet through its browser. Websites that redirect or display aggressive pop-up ads may be blocked.
The status bar can be hidden for more engaging navigation. The number of open windows / tabs increases to 99 and the option to reorder or lock certain tabs is added. By the way, the Samsung internet panel on the side disappears (probably nobody uses it anymore).
4. News on contact management, customization of the call screen and deleted messages stored in the trash;
Quick option to delete duplicate contacts. I assume that you inadvertently have a phone number assigned to multiple contacts. Well, there are several scenarios where a contact is doubled. Samsung helps you with a quick option to sort the list. And the research part has been improved.
Ability to customize the call screen with your own images and videos. Here I assume that Samsung wanted to be somehow in line with Android 11. I’m curious if such a feature remains implemented for a long time, in the sense that there is even a request and opening for the customization of the call screen (although we do from what in fewer voice calls, we rely on messages and video calls).
Recently deleted messages are stored in the trash. So, if you accidentally delete something or need that information, you have nowhere to repost the message.
5. Digital wellbeing with many new features;
Here I would say they paid special attention. The novelty is represented by:
- widget on the home screen show the time of use of the phone without unlocking it and enter the dedicated section;
- trends included in the weekly report related to how you used your smartphone and comparisons made with the previous week;
- it also includes the weekly report the length of time you have used the phone while driving;
- separate profiles for work and personal (you can track allotted time separately).
It should also be mentioned that they have improved the autofocus and exposure time for the camera. The image editor allows you to revert an edited photo to its original version.
When will One UI 3.0 be brought to Samsung smartphones?
