1 in 5 people suffer from depression

Since last March, Public Health France has conducted repeated Internet surveys (called CoviPrev) among people aged 18 and over, to monitor the effects of Covid-19 on the population, and in particular on their mental health. At the beginning of November, for the second consecutive time, analysts observed a significant increase in depressive states (+5 points). Prevalence doubled between late September (11%) and early November (21%).

The most significant increases were observed among young people: +16 points between 18-24 years and +15 points between 25-34 years But also the inactive (+15 points) and people in a very difficult financial situation (+ 14 points). The study also observes a continuous and globally significant increase in anxiety states (+3 points). Main causes alleged:

  • A feeling of isolation and loneliness

  • Feeling vulnerable to the risk of SARS-Cov-2 infection

  • Concern about the financial consequences of imprisonment

  • The fact that relatives take and approve less preventive measures.

An increase in long-term sick leave
