WISeKey and Blockchain Research Institute sign an agreement to create interconnected Blockchain centers of excellence worldwide
The agreement was announced by Don Tapscott and Carlos Moreira at the annual Blockchain Congress in Geneva
Geneva, 19 January 2019 – WISeKey International Holding Ltd ("WISeKey") (SIX: WIHN), a leading global information security company, Blockchain and IoT, today announced the signing of a partnership with the Blockchain Research Institute (BRI) for the creation of a series of interconnected Blockchain centers of excellence worldwide. In addition to the Blockchain centers of excellence already established by WISeKey in India, Mauritius and Rwanda, the agreement provides for the creation of additional centers, starting from two new centers in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Geneva, Switzerland.
The spirit of this initiative is to promote the use of blockchain technologies internationally, facilitate rapid adaptation and integration of blockchain-based solutions, promote closer collaboration between the public, private and academic sectors and cooperate to ensure that the latest technological standards are made available in a safe and reliable manner. Blockchain centers of excellence will also be instrumental in prototyping, in co-creation of use cases and in the creation of IP on blockchain technology and platforms. They will also become a channel for engaging companies and governments globally in the work of BRI, as well as a distribution channel for BRI research.
Blockchain centers of excellence will function as a coordinated and interoperable blockchain ecosystem around the world, enabling all partners to fully benefit from learning, experience and shared resources. Each Blockchain center of excellence is expected to develop a specific skill that can be shared among all centers. For example, the Blockchain Center of Excellence in Buenos Aires will lead the development of specific platforms and applications to combat counterfeiting, illicit trade and corruption, while the Blockchain Center of Excellence in Geneva will focus on Fintech, in particular private banking and commodity trading.
Carlos Moreira, CEO and founder of WISeKey, noted: "The creation of Blockchain Centers of Excellence represents an important step to overcome the enormous lack of trust with which we currently live and represents an unprecedented effort to promote closer cooperation between public, private and academic for the adoption of the latest blockchain technology standards in a safe and reliable way. "
Don Tapscott, founder and executive president of the Blockchain Research Institute, noted: "Blockchain represents the second Internet era – from the Internet of information to the Internet of Value. We at the BRI are pleased that the Blockchain Centers initiative of Excellence help the world to access and take advantage of our work ".
