The UK reports 532 new coronavirus deaths

Britain reported 532 deaths from the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours on Tuesday, the highest number since mid-May.

With the latest additions, the country’s death toll rose to 2,520 in one week.

Health authorities also released the daily number of new infections at 20,412, bringing the total number of cases over the past seven days to 159,896.

A national blockade has been in place in England for one week and will end on 2 December, which will then be reviewed.

UK officials say they have obtained 40 million doses of the vaccine candidate from Pfizer and BioNTech, who have said their vaccine is 90% effective in preventing people from contracting the virus.

Welcoming the news on Monday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said these are “early days” and “the biggest mistake we can make now is to soften our resolve.”

Between January 2 and November 9, 2020, there were 49,766 deaths within 28 days of a positive test for the coronavirus, according to officials.
