The 2018 Royal Manitoba Winter Fair is ending. This year's event is underway from March 26th to 31st at the Keystone Center, which marks its 136th year. The days are full of family fun, music, horse and cattle shows, fairs, ag clinics and education.

Breanne Bourns is with Burns Family Percherons of Cartwright and is a permanent character of the event. His family has been around for about 30 years.

Bourns worked hard to prepare the 4-Horse Hitch. To train his young horses, he drove every day for the last 2 or 3 months.

He adds that it is always nervous to enter the arena, but that is also rewarding.

"It's really great to go out there with 8 other hitches … we put the last place, but I'd rather be out there and place the last time with a bunch of other people than stay there out alone, "he said.

Bourns also welcomes people who come to pamper their horses during the fair while they rest in the barn.

"As big and scary as they are, they are very kind and love people," he said.

The family also owns 10 Percherons and a pair of light horses.
