The Ottawa police received more calls relating to similar cases on bomb threats that have been received via e-mail in which the unknown sender requires a bitcoin payment. The police arrived on multiple scenes to investigate these threats.

Till now, all the threats that have been investigated are considered "unfounded" by the Ottawa police, but investigations are still ongoing.

Ottawa police are warning citizens that if they receive an email similar to those mentioned above, to report the incident with the Ottawa police or online or to call 613-236-1222 ect. 7300. They are warning that under no circumstances will recipients of these e-mails answer the bitcoin question requested by the sender.

However, Ottawa does not seem to be the only city to receive these bomb threat emails, as NYPD in New York also issued a press release on similar e-mails, stating "Please be advised – a & # 39; -mail containing a bomb asking for bitcoin payment. While this e-mail was sent to many locations, searches were conducted and no devices were found "
