Mango-ver and out x

21:15

Yes, thanks to all of you who have read and commented on this liveblog. Michael and I were overwhelmed by the nice comments, feedback, jokes and remarks (and puns related to mango). It has been a pleasure and we hope to see you soon.

21:15

Thank you all for following our wild walks over the past ten weeks. It was a joy to share those sweet mango highs and white chocolate basses with you all. Where else could I publicly flirt with Northern Irish competitors and complain about the instructions for the limited challenge? Well, Twitter I suppose. But it just wouldn’t be the same.

21:14

Well, I’m babbling like a baby. What a beautiful montage, and a thoughtful tribute to Luis, the finalist of the 2014 season who passed away a few weeks ago.

21:12

It’s been a tough year, but throughout this crisis I’ve felt that TV can be a thing to keep us going, offering a lift and a distraction from all this endless monotony.

Bake Off was one of those shows. Despite all the ups and downs of cooking over the past 10 weeks and the obligatory criticism, how surprising there was a Bake Off to begin with ?! Thanks go to the production crew, the hotel staff, the catering and security, the people of Channel 4 and the bakers … all have left their homes and loved ones for up to 10 weeks, just so Bake Off could air as usual this year. It must have required an extraordinary effort, especially when it would be so easy to cancel the show this year.

21:11

CREEPERS JEEPERS! He really did! In the most tense Bake Off finale the show has ever had, Peter just managed to beat Dave with his impressive Bake Off Bubble Showstopper.

And also what a deserved victory it was. His desserts were impressive, but the thing that shone the most was Peter himself. From tweaking recipes so his gluten-intolerant brother could enjoy his desserts, to injecting all of the Scottish ingredients into his creations as humanly possible, what became obvious was that Peter always cooked with other people in mind.

If you wanted an example of how awesome Peter is, watch him in the final – cheering every baker and smiling every time they got a compliment from the judges. He also kindly brought Paul down a peg or two reminding us that Bake Off was half his life. Congratulations Peter!

21:09

OKEY KOKEY! RIGHT I HAVE! RINKY DINK! Silly Billy Peter won the Bake Off!

Youngest winner we’ve ever seen, and Bonnie Scotland’s first (I don’t know if you noticed what her legacy was, she didn’t mention it a hundred times). What an exceptional effort she has made over the weeks: maintaining a cool demeanor while displaying a fabulous taste for flavors.

They also didn’t really focus on that, but every week at least one if not both of her desserts were gluten-free, which is particularly impressive.

21:04

I know it’s between Peter and Dave, but I’m really proud of Laura for stopping by, especially when the going gets tough.

21:04

He laughs because Peter was unable to say anything when asked how it went.

21:01

Among the boys, no one knows who conquered it …

21:01

God, this is tense. I think Peter may have just pulled it out, but honestly, I have no idea …

21:01

Dave’s pie is “delicious” and “wonderfully light” according to Paul, but his babkas are “too hard”. His choux buns are too flat too. They also have a too moist filling (from the lateral eye to the camera). Two of his desserts get rave reviews, the other two don’t.

A bold move by Dave to remake all the cakes he’s struggled with over the course of the series. It seems to have paid off, mostly.

20:58

According to the judges, Peter’s cooking was “a little ‘dry’, but the blackberry is” delicious “and the choux is” well done. ” However, his friends (I had to google them, I have no idea) are disappointing and “boring”. A “good effort,” so Dave could get it done if his cake tastes better. But his is risky.

If you are wondering if someone dropped the cake while carrying it from their table to the judges, it happened once in the Belgian version.

if you think that the spectacular bake off challenges are getting too ridiculous on the belgian one someone has decided to bake an upside down chandelier cake …

As always, Laura’s real * bake * is truly exceptional in terms of textures and flavors. I hope she can see that she has made herself proud.

20:56

The final judgment.

Laura looks like all the cakes are stacked together, but visually it looks a bit random … she won’t lie.
