Somalia’s Information Minister Osman Dubbe criticized neighboring Kenya for its hostile stance towards Somalia and Somalis, saying the Somali government’s patience with the neighboring country is over.
At a press conference in the capital Mogadishu, Minister Dubbe listed some of Kenya’s actions that continually rage Mogadishu.
According to the minister, Kenya harassed travelers from Somalia and its troops in Somalia operated outside the mandate of the African Union Mission.
It accused the neighboring country of using its hold on the regional state of Jubbaland to undermine Somalia’s sovereignty and the 2020/21 electoral process.
In addition, Kenyan troops destroyed Somali telecommunications companies, regularly targeting Hormuud and Somtel installations along the border between the two countries and in other parts of the country, the minister said.
He said Nairobi has transformed into a base from which attacks on Somalia’s stability, unity, territorial integrity and political independence are ordered, organized and launched.
On the contrary, the minister said Ethiopia has ceased all meddling in Somalia’s affairs since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed came to power, with the Ethiopian government now in tune with the Somali federal government.
This is why relations with Ethiopia are thriving while ties with Kenya continue to deteriorate.
Somalia recently banned the import of Khat from Kenya, with Ethiopia now being the main exporter of the stimulant to Somalia, a major blow to Kenyan producers of Khat, who have recently asked the Kenyan government to resolve the issue with Somalia.
The minister’s comments come after Somalia expelled the Kenyan ambassador to Mogadishu and recalled his envoy to Nairobi, accusing him of meddling in the 2020/21 elections.
Kenya denied the allegations and said it hoped the Somali government would resolve its disagreements with Jubbaland.
