Line Plus, a subsidiary of the Japanese-based chat giant, has acquired the GrayHash online security research center for an undisclosed amount.

GrayHash is a research-driven offensive company founded by a group of entrepreneurs, who have long experience in the security industry, successfully conducting international competitions of hacking, international contests and hacking conferences. Its main customers are IT, electronics, games, messengers and mobile companies.

Line Plus said that the acquisition of GrayHash will enable them to enhance the development of optimized security solutions for their messaging services and FinTech. GrayHash, which will be renamed "GrayLab", will focus on developing security solutions in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain and digital currency exchange.

Seung Jin Lee, CEO and co-founder of GrayHash, will continue to lead GrayLab. Lee said: "We will continue to strengthen the security and capabilities of the LINE service by taking security measures based on intuition, technology, etc."

Last month, Line announced that it would establish a joint blockchain venture with the Japanese Mizho Financial Group to provide a variety of convenient financial services, including smartphone banking applications.
