Without too many fuss and trumpets, Apple has released iOS 14.2 for iPhone and iPad owners. The new version can now be installed on the same iOS 14 compatible devices.
If you haven’t checked for a new update for your Apple device in a long time, you can go to Settings in the General section and tap Software Update at the top of the window. iOS 14.2 is the latest version of iOS and below you can see the full list of changes and fixes introduced by the Cupertino giant.
iOS 14.2 includes the following improvements for the iPhone:
- Over 100 new emojis, including animals, food, faces, housewares, musical instruments, gender-inclusive emojis and more
- Eight new backgrounds, each with light and dark mode versions
- The Magnifying Glass feature can detect nearby people and report how far they are using the LiDAR sensor included in iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max
- IPhone 12 leather case compatibility with MagSafe
- Optimized battery charging for AirPods, which slows battery aging by reducing the time the AirPods headphones are fully charged
- Headphone notifications to alert you when the audio level may affect your hearing
- New AirPlay controls for streaming entertainment throughout the home
- Intercom functionality with HomePod and HomePod mini using iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods and CarPlay
- Ability to connect a HomePod to Apple TV 4K for stereo, surround and Dolby Atmos audio
- Ability to send exposure notification statistics, without your identification, to participating public health authorities
This release also fixes the following issues:
- Applications may appear in the wrong order in the dock on the home screen
- The viewfinder may have been black when the Camera app was launched
- The keypad on the lock screen may not detect a touch when you try to enter the passcode
- The reminders could implicitly take hours from the past
- The Photos widget may not display the content
- The Weather widget may display the maximum temperature in Celsius, even though it was set to Fahrenheit
- The description of the next hour’s precipitation graph may incorrectly indicate when the precipitation stops
- Recorder recordings were interrupted by incoming calls
- The screen may be black when playing Netflix videos
- The Apple Watch application may quit unexpectedly when opened
- Training GPS tracks or Health app data may not sync between Apple Watch and iPhone for some users
- The audio content was incorrectly labeled as not playing in the CarPlay dashboard
- Wireless charging of devices may be prevented
- Exposure notifications were disabled while restoring an iPhone from an iCloud backup or transferring data to a new iPhone using the iPhone migration feature
