Apple will build a $ 1 billion campus in Austin, Texas, will open its doors to smaller locations in Seattle, San Diego and Culver City, California, and will expand in Pittsburgh, New York and Colorado over the next three years.
The technology giant said Thursday that the new campus of Austin, less than a mile from current Apple facilities, will open with 5,000 positions in engineering, research and development, operations, finance, sales and customer support. The site, according to Apple, will have the capacity to finally accommodate 15,000 employees.
The other three new locations will have more than 1,000 employees each.
At the start of this year, Apple said it would make over $ 30 billion in capital expenditures in the United States over the next five years. This, the company said in January, would create more than 20,000 new jobs on existing and new campuses that Apple has planned to build.
Where US companies open new facilities or facilities it has always had the potential for public and political backlash.
This potential has intensified under the Trump administration, which has pushed companies to maintain more operations within the country's borders.
While Tim Cook chiefly led President Donald Trump's wrath, Apple received a rejection three months ago from the White House.
Apple has sent a letter to the US trade representative to warn that the burgeoning trade war with China and rising tariffs may impose higher prices for US consumers.
Trump in a tweet told Apple to start producing its products in the United States, and not in China.
Apple uses many overseas facilities to produce components and products, including China.
The best technology executives at Google, Microsoft, IBM, Oracle and Qualcomm gathered at the White House earlier this month to discuss the ties between administration and industry and to address tensions with China. Cook was not among them, nor Jeff Bezos of Amazon.
There are already 6,000 Apple employees in Austin, its largest operation outside the headquarters in Cupertino, California, where 37,000 people work.
"Apple has been a vital part of the Austin community for a quarter of a century, and we are thrilled that they are deepening their investments in our people and the city we love," said Austin Mayor Steve Adler in a prepared statement. Thursday.
Apple said almost a year ago that it would begin to propagate the United States for another campus.
Cities offered incentives to attract the company, but Cook avoided a high-profile competition that put them one against the other as Amazon did in the last year and half.
Even Amazon expands
Amazon announced in November after a 14-month research that had selected Long Island City, Queens and Arlington, Virginia, as joint winners. Each site will employ approximately 25,000 people.
Cities are keen to engage more technology employers because companies like Apple and Amazon distribute six-figure salaries to engineers and other skilled workers.

The infusion of thousands of new and well-paid residents can ripple into an economy, with those employees filling restaurants, theaters, buying properties and paying taxes.
Annual earnings will vary in new locations, but Apple workers in Cupertino have an average annual salary of about $ 125,000, according to a report that the company presented to the city. (VOA)
