South African scientists plan to send tiny particles into the atmosphere to attenuate sunlight.

The neglected threat these days when we talk about the coronavirus epidemic is global warming. Experts predict that the demand for water will increase by 55% by 2050. According to the Independent report based on Euroweeklynews, South African scientists acting against this possibility are working on a very interesting project.

According to the same report, scientists at the University of Cape Town are planning to send small particles into the atmosphere to attenuate sunlight. The plan aims to release a large amount of sulfur dioxide gas into the atmosphere above Cape Town, thereby permanently obscuring the sun and protecting water resources.

The plan was published in the academic journal Environmental Research Letters. However, the number of scientists who point out that this project will not be a solution is not a few.

Many scientists oppose the idea of ​​pumping gas into the atmosphere to reduce the effects of global warming.

Experts who defend this idea describe the plan as “a dangerous intervention that could damage the climate system”.
