Ripple shill is strong but the hype can only get you so far: the XRP Army is exposed

XRP is Lebron James of crypto. One day does not pass without the media gaping at him: they hate him or love him, but they can not ignore him.

In their traditional year, Coindesk has produced a series of articles about the most important personalities, events or groups within the crypt space. One of the topics was XRPArmy, a self-taught title that XRP owners got on Twitter. The article explains and tests the tight packs of accounts that hide or defend XRP throughout the day, with a military discipline.

Here is one of the most interesting parts of the article, in which an independent researcher mathematically demonstrates astroturf and the apparent bot activity behind one of the best known XRP supporters who goes under an XRPTrump moniker.

"The idea that astroturfing is popular on Twitter XRP, however, is more closely linked to Geoff Golberg, an independent researcher who has been studying the online presence of the XRP community for months.

"It's a coordinated amplification," Golberg said in an interview with Coindesk. "This is not organic."

He mentioned the suspicious models to follow, love and rewrite that point to a certain degree of manipulation. In some cases, accounts seem to be automated ("bots"), ie controlled using a script.

As it turns out, the 8,200 accounts that make up these blobs all have the same mathematical relationship with XRP Trump as a whole: an Eigencentrality score of exactly 0.013143. This score is also the lowest of the entire data set.

"They are all equally disconnected," said Golberg.

For over 8,000 Trump followers, about 21,000 followers (when data were collected in September) to have an identical relationship with the broader network – up to the sixth decimal place – would be incredibly unlikely in an organic, human network, in which thousands of complexes, the individual volitions produce thousands of different degrees of influence. Golberg told CoinDesk that it is "a huge red flag".

To test and corroborate his findings, CoinDesk used SparkToro's "false control of followers" tool, which shows that XRP Trump, Schwartz, Hodor, and Garlinghouse all have above-average proportions of false followers, depending on the size of the following :

It is worth noting that the following fakes may be completely unprotected by the profile you follow, there is nothing you can do to prevent bots from following you on Twitter. However, this research is definitely an interesting insight and a new tool in the arsenal for the detractors of the XRP.

Our website Captainaltcoin.com also had the opportunity to witness the strength of the XRP community on Reddit. One of the articles published there that shone, from the perceived negative XRP community, light on the speed of the token and its influence on the future price of XRP was heavily attacked and downvoted by the XRP robots.

The most interesting part for us was a comment from an XRP robot that attacked our post and the site in general, received a bunch of votes in just a few minutes just to go screaming for the moderators to help him, accusing us of manipulating the Reddit system vote.

His chain of logic was rather broken because it made no sense that someone could reverse a negative comment about himself. But it definitely makes sense for XRP robots to revoke a commentary in defense of their beloved token.

Once he understood his mistake, his comment was promptly canceled.

Regardless of the fundamental strength of the XRP register and the overlapping token, the social activity and marketing machine behind this project are enormous. This will likely lead to an increase in pumps and price fluctuations in the future, which will result in a surplus of enthusiasm in the project as the new holders get sucked and try to defend their "lambo investment".

However, the buzz and the empty hype can only take you up to this point: to sustain the growth and the heights you reach with the hype, you have to provide a value in return. Ripplenet actually has a good chance of doing it. But the XRP token could very well become the weird man, the leper that no one will need or want to touch in the future.
