PUMPS. On the Italian outskirts of Pompeii, they discovered the remains of two victims of the eruption of Vesuvius nearly 2,000 years ago.

The AFP agency reported Saturday, referring to the researchers of the site.

Archaeologists, based on the remains of the clothing and the appearance of the skeletons, believe that he was a young slave and a richer man who may have been around 40 at the time of death and probably owned the slave.

The skeletons were discovered in the corridor below the villa, where the stables found preserved remains of a horse with a harness in late 2018.

According to the director of the Pompeii Archaeological Park, Massimo Osanna, the villa belonged to a high-ranking military officer during the time of ancient Rome.

The ancient city of Pompeii, located about 240 kilometers south of Rome, was destroyed in 79 AD by the eruption of the nearby volcano Vesuvius.

The layers of ash covered by the city during the explosion kept many buildings and objects almost intact, including the remains of the victims of the disaster.
