Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Maciej Lang met on Monday in Teheran with his Iranian counterpart in an attempt to resolve a dispute over a conference that his country will host.

Lang described his talks with the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi as "constructive" about the jointly organized conference with the United States on peace and security in the Middle East.

"We talked about a wide range of problems, including misunderstanding about the Warsaw conference, and

I presented our point of view on this subject. We had a long discussion and I hope I did it clearly, "Lang told AFP in an interview.

"For Poland, this conference is not against any country," he said.

The summit was announced for the first time on January 11 by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who stated that "includes an important element to ensure that Iran is not a destabilizing influence" in the area.

The Iranian foreign ministry said in a statement that the reasons given by the Polish government for the co-organization of the summit were unacceptable and that the Poles "must be aware of the consequences".

The Islamic republic would not allow any country inside or outside the region "to build coalitions against its interests," reads the note.

Lang expressed hope that the conference will have a positive impact on relations with Iran.
