Detroit Lions manager Matt Patricia insists he’s not thinking about the safety of his job amid mounting pressures following his team’s defeat to the Houston Texans on Thanksgiving.

Thursday’s 41-25 loss to the Texans was the fourth in their last five games, with the Lions currently sitting 4-7 and last in NFC North.

Patricia was naturally questioned about her future with the organization after the game, having entered the year with high expectations to meet after finishing with record loss in each of her first two seasons at the helm.

“My focus every day is on the guys in that locker room and to work as hard as I can to help those guys succeed,” Patricia said.

“It’s not really outside of that, I don’t think outside of that, I don’t care outside of that except trying to do the best possible job every day to help everyone succeed and try to keep the our team Other than that, we play rather short-term and focus on the task ahead.

“I focus one day at a time. That doesn’t change.”

Patricia came with a brilliant reputation as a defensive mastermind after being snatched from Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots coaching staff in 2018.

It has since failed to maintain that reputation, with Lions currently ranked 27th in total defense, having also been 31st overall in 2019.

Speaking in June, owner Sheila Ford Hamp said this season’s goal was “a major improvement”, following December, when mother and team owner at the time, Martha Ford, alluded to expectations that Lions were a playoff contender in 2020.

While their post-season aspirations look bleak, so do Patricia’s chances of returning in 2021.
