Republican Senator Marco Rubio urged the US Treasury Department to apply the National Assembly's request to block Venezuelan state accounts in 46 countries abroad for the illegitimacy of Nicolás Maduro.

Congressman submitted the request to US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, as he informed The New Herald.

"I ask you […] respectfully your help in meeting the request of the National Assembly of Venezuela. In addition, I urge you to use all the tools available to prevent the Maduro regime from continuing to plunder the assets that rightfully belong to the people of Venezuela, "said the senator in the letter sent to the Secretary of the Treasury.

The measure, if applied in the United States, would have an impact on oil operations, as the United States purchases about 500,000 barrels a day from the country.
