Manila residents will earn rewards in Ethereum's cryptocurrency for cleaning beaches

Among the various cases of use of the Ethereum blockchain, who would have thought that the decentralized application (dApp) could be used to attract citizens to clean beaches. Residents of Manila, in the Philippines, will be awarded Ethereum (ETH) to clean up a heavily polluted beach in the nation's capital.

Nicknamed as "Sizes for the ocean,"ConsenSys is the largest blockchain software development company in the world and Bounties Network, a dApp on Ethereum, has partnered for the business." Joseph Lubin, co-creator of Ethereum and CEO of ConsenSys, said in a tweet:

"In Manila, participants will be paid to ETH to spend a few hours cleaning up one of the most polluted beaches in the world, Bounties Network and ConsenSys Impact are demonstrating a new model in which people finance cases directly without intermediaries."

Sizes for the ocean

ConsenSys Impact, a subsidiary of ConsenSys in New York, introduced a nonprofit initiative called "Sizes for the oceans: Philippine Pilot – Sustainable and Verifiable Plastic Cleaning" to encourage the adoption of blockchain technology in the country. The Bounties Network dApp, Bounty acts as a perfect accompaniment to this plan as it allows platform users to create rewards and reward participants with ETH.

The use of Bounty will ensure that participants are compensated transparently using the public ledger of a blockchain network. The program says:

"Plastic pollution costs the lives of 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals in the year, fish eat plastic and eat fish, causing $ 8 billion in marine ecosystem damage every year. With Bounties for the Ocean, we ask people from all over the world to present verifiable evidence of their direct contribution to plastic cleansing as a means of promoting widespread behavioral change over the long term.Do not depend on centralized organizations, go out there and do it by only."

Because the Philippines

The Philippines stand as one of the best places to start the project as it reopened Boracay, a popular tourist destination in the country. After suffering from heavy pollution, the beach with acclaimed diving spots and the characteristic sugary and powdery white sand was closed.

Furthermore, the country has largely adopted cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin as a legitimate form of payment and the central bank has officially recognized Bitcoin as a remittance method. After acceptance, the use of other large cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum also noted a rapid increase.
