Hollywood star Johnny Depp (57) resigns from the role of wizard Gellert Grindelwald in the series “Fantastic Beasts” after recent defeat in the process. The actor announced on Instagram Friday that the Warner Bros. studio had asked him to do so. He would respect these requests and obey them.

Depp had suffered a legal defeat to the tabloid “Sun” earlier this week. The 57-year-old had sued the editor of the London “Sun” over an article detailing how he would physically abuse his ex-wife Amber Heard (34). The court rejected his complaint.

Depp again stressed on Instagram on Friday that he wants to appeal to the “surreal judgment” and continue his “struggle for truth.” His life and career shouldn’t be determined by these events.

Depp played the villain Grindelwald in the first two parts of the film series: “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” (2016) and “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” (2018). The five-part series programmed with Jude Law and Eddie Redmayne and directed by David Yates is set in the world of Harry Potter by JK Rowling.

The third part is in production and is expected to hit theaters in 2022. According to a message from Warner Bros., the role of Grindelwald is expected to be reprized, the Hollywood Reporter reported on Friday.
