At the investigation into the attack on the Manchester Arena at the Ariana Grande concert it was said that additional security had been considered but would cost too much.

Ariana Grande’s management had considered tighter security in the Manchester arena but opted for smaller measures after learning of the costs they would incur. The Dangerous Woman tour, the venue’s security director, Bob Fontenot had requested a complete resignation from the public, but he didn’t want to cover the costs involved.

The investigation heard that “bag checks and metal detectors at the entrance at the discretion of the venue” were originally required, but that the use of metal detecting wands was not standard in the Manchester arena.

At the previous show by Ariana al NEC full tapping had been used in Birmingham, however in Manchester just a few days later, security involved only “random” tapping due to the cost involved. Salman Abedi detonated the bomb in the “City Room” of the arena, which was not inside the area covered by the security cordon.
