International Internet Day, celebrated on 29 October

International Internet Day is celebrated every year on October 29, when the first message was sent from one computer to another.

43 years ago, in 1969, Charley Kline of UCLA (California) first tried to go online.

Kline transmitted from a university-hosted SDD 7 SDD the “access” message to a Stanford Research Institute SDD 7 computer using the ArpaNet network.

On the first attempt, after sending the first two letters, “l” and “o” of the word “login”, the connection was lost.

7 out of 10 Romanians use the Internet

Nearly 7 in 10 Romanians in urban areas, over the age of 15, say they use the internet, and a third say they don’t.

We must not confuse use with the interest access rate.

Although Romania ranks first in Europe for internet speed and 6th in the world, an EU ranking from 2014 places Romania in last place in the Union from the point of view of Internet penetration rate at the level of population, 51.66%.
