A challenging weekend for Manitoba Hydro crews continues on Sunday with multiple breaks reported throughout the Southwest of Manitoba. Due to the weight of the extended frosthydropower break dec012018 3 "width =" 275Image courtesy of Barry Lamb and ice on power lines some were cut down, while others were damaged. Starting at 8:30 on Monday evening, according to Crown's website, 1553 customers were powerless.

Manitoba Hydro is encouraging people in the area to treat all of the down-loaded power lines while they live, adding icy lines that tend to sag near roads and intersections, so driving with caution is advisable.

Bruce Owen is an official in charge of relations with Manitoba Hydro and says that the crews have spent the last two days working to restore energy due to interruptions caused by severe frosts. "We had a lot of frost and that frost and clings to everything, including our lines. We pulled out the crews, we had a lot of lines and we had to deal with some broken poles because only that added weight causes these problems ".

In some cases Hydro creates short circuits to heat the lines to eliminate frost. "During the peak weekend we had 5,000 customers without electricity and the plan is to try and restart all online as early as possible on Monday."

The breaks were reported from the border between Saskatchewan and Highway 75, south of Winnipeg, and especially in areas south of the Trans Canada Highway.

The extra crews are out of the workspace to restore power as quickly as possible, focusing on removing ice and ice from the lines and repairing them.
