The Rio Preto Secretariat of Health has begun testing the asymptomatic population for coronavirus, in a serological survey to determine what portion of Rio residents have had contact with the virus and still don’t know. In addition to some specific groups that will be contacted by the portfolio, the general population will also be able to look for three test points this Saturday and next. At collection points, it is necessary to keep social distances and always wear a mask.

The serological survey is important for Health to know what percentage of the population has already been infected and, therefore, to outline strategies to contain the disease and prospects on possible scenarios of the pandemic.

The tests are serological, i.e. performed with the blood of individuals. They look for antibodies, proteins produced by the body to fight the virus. The approximately 20,000 tests available have been sent by the Butantan Institute and it is estimated that the tests will be completed by 30 November. After the collection, the estimate is that the result will be available in a week.

This Saturday, the 7th and the next, population tests will take place on the sidewalk of Praça Ruy Barbosa from 9:00 to 13:00, at the Basic Health Unit (UBS) Central (Avenida Philadelpho Gouveia Neto, 316) between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, and at the Sorology Laboratory (Rua Ipiranga, 291) from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm. It is necessary to have a document with photo and CPF and minors can take the test only if they are with the person in charge. Passwords will be made available.

The representatives of some publics will be contacted by the Health to do the tests, as they are groups exposed to the virus or at risk.

According to the Secretary of Health, Aldenis Borim, this is the right time to do the serological investigation, after the peak of the disease has passed – the doctor explains that, if it were done before the high circulation, the vast majority of the results would return negative. “We didn’t do herd immunity because we have no control over it. We flattened the curve, controlled the release. We did immunity for when there is no vaccine, exposure and population restriction in a way that gradually comes immunized “.
