HBO Max signs Charlize Theron for TV and wins comedy series “The Middle” – TBI Vision

HBO has struck a first-look deal with Hollywood star Charlize Theron, while continuing its frantic content acquisition business.

Theron and her banner Denver & Delilah have struck a two-year deal with streamer WarnerMedia and sister HBO, which will see her develop projects for the network and SVOD.

The deal focuses only on TV projects and will be overseen by Andrew Haas of Denver & Deliliah, who has been behind shows including scripted series such as Mindhunter and motor show Hyperdrive.

The prodco, who previously had a deal with Universal Cable Productions, has also been behind films including Monster, Atomic blonde is Young adults.

In related news, HBO Max has acquired the exclusive streaming rights in the United States for the family comedy series The goal.

The deal covers all nine seasons (215 episodes) of the show, produced by HBO Max, sister of Warner Bros. TV and Blackie and Blondie Productions. Some seasons had previously been available via Hulu, as well as on the Amazon IMDb TV AVOD streamer.

The WarnerMedia-owned company pickup is the latest addition for HBO Max, which has also bought a slew of international dramas. More recently, it took exclusive US rights for the BBC One hit of 2019 Christine Keeler’s trial.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of the deal with Theron.
