Hamburg: Shell and Lieferando deliver beer and snacks

Quickly buy a roll of toilet paper at the gas station around the corner when all the other supermarkets are closed – who doesn’t know? Gas station shops were often the rescue for one or the other on Sundays or holidays. Now the company would like to meet burgers, more precisely at their home.

In times of crown quarantine, lockdowns and hamster purchases, burgers are increasingly relying on online delivery services. A service station in Winterhude would like to benefit from this growing demand.

The Shell operator is collaborating with Lieferando for this and is now bringing the goods from the tank directly to the front door. The first shop to offer this service is Winterhuder Straße 72 station.

“The boom in delivery services gave us the idea that we too would like to offer customers the opportunity to order products at their gas station around the corner and have them delivered to their homes,” says the head of the Shell petrol station company in Germany. As in other online stores, from Wednesday customers can put the products they want in the cart, pay online and stay on the sofa. The range includes packaged snacks, such as various confectionery and savory snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, selected hygiene products, sweet and savory sandwiches and baked goods.

“Working with Shell allows us to offer consumers on an even wider and more diverse range that differs significantly from the previous offering on our platform,” says Katharina Hauke, managing director of Yourdelivery GmbH, the operator of the website.

While the pilot project at the service station in Winterhuder Strasse is well received by Hamburg residents, further collaborations are expected in other locations as well, according to the oil company.
