Donald Trump’s Wisconsin story increased Joe Biden’s lead

The recount of votes in the largest county of Wisconsin, requested by Donald Trump’s campaign team, had the opposite effect to what the president of the United States expected: Joe Biden increased his lead by about 130 votes, reports The Guardian.

Donald Trump’s team has called for a recount of votes in two of Wisconsin’s largest counties: Milwaukee and Dane. In both, Joe Biden won by a wide margin and both are counties that traditionally vote with Democratic candidates.

After recounting the votes in Milwaukee, Biden got another 132 votes out of more than 460,000 cast. In all, another 257 votes were found for the president-elect, while another 125 for Trump. In the other county the recount will end on Sunday, but the chances of the Wisconsin result being reversed are slim. Biden won the state by a margin of about 20,000 votes.

After the second count, Milwaukee election official George Christenson said, “The recount shows something we already knew: the elections in Milwaukee County were fair, transparent, fair and safe.”

Wisconsin is expected to validate the election result by Tuesday, but Trump’s team is expected to continue its efforts to overturn the result by any means. In recent weeks, Trump and his lawyers have failed after failure in their attempts to change the election outcome: results in several key states have already been validated, and their appeals have been denied as lacking evidence, clear accusations, or as having procedural defects.

Joe Biden won the November 3 election with a score of 306 to 232 and over 80 million votes nationwide.
