Covid-19: Denmark fights against a new viral strain

In Denmark, a mink farm has been contaminated with a mutant Covid-19 virus. Carsten Rahbek’s farm is nearby and none of his visions have contracted the new strain of the virus. Out of fear, the farmer is forced to kill them all. If he can do it in ten days, the government will pay him a little more. The Danish authorities are really extremely scared of the consequences.

If the authorities are so careful, it is because the virus has already spread to 200 of Denmark’s 1,100 mink farms. On some farms, a mutation worries scientists. They fear it will weaken the future vaccine. As a precaution, the government therefore wants to pass a law to eliminate the country’s 17 million mink.

In northern Denmark, twelve people were infected with this mutated Covid last month. The authorities then set up emergency screening centers to test the 280,000 inhabitants of the seven affected departments.
