(Bloomberg) – Ottawa and Toronto became the last cities to receive bomb threats by asking Bitcoin after the apparent fraud spread in the United States at the start of the day. The New York Police Department said the threats were not deemed credible.

The security researcher KrebsonSecurity has published a copy of the email on his website – has requested a payment of $ 20,000 in Bitcoin.

"I could see this extremely disruptive spam campaign in the short run," KrebsonSecurity said. "There is no doubt that some companies that receive this extortion email will consider it a credible threat."

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said they knew about bomb threats and assisted the partners of the order forces.

Police departments across the United States, including Oklahoma, Massachusetts, and Illinois, were among the many local authorities who reported the threat to the United States.
