TORONTO – An interested person was identified in the murders of billionaire couple Barry and Honey Sherman, Toronto Police Service confirmed to CTV News Toronto on Wednesday.

“The Toronto Police Service can confirm that a person of interest has been identified but not arrested,” Const. Alex Li said in a statement.

No further details have been released by officials at this time.

The famous couple were last seen alive on the evening of December 13, 2017.

Their bodies were found by real estate agents who were visiting potential buyers through their Toronto home, located on Old Colony Road, two days later. They were found semi-sitting on the pool deck, strapped to a railing surrounding their indoor pool.

The house has since been demolished at the request of the family.

Police sources initially claimed that the prevailing theory in the case was that it was a homicide-suicide. But, about six weeks after their bodies were found, homicide detectives confirmed they believe the couple had been targeted and killed.

The Sherman family hired a team of private investigators to investigate the murders.

On December 16, 2019, Toronto police and family released a joint statement saying the private investigation was over. In a press conference that day, Toronto homicide unit chief Insp. Hank Idsinga reminded the audience that the police investigation remained active and asked anyone with any suggestions to contact them directly.

So far, no arrests have been made in the high profile case.

Barry Sherman was the founder of generic drug maker Apotex Inc. The couple were among Canada’s most generous philanthropists with numerous multimillion-dollar donations to hospitals, schools and charities.

The couple’s home in Toronto was on the market for $ 6.9 million at the time of their death. They were building a new house in the city.
