Only a week has passed from the avalanche at the foot of the Säntis. However, Hotel Schwägalp has reopened its doors. From the drama of the snow there is a lot to see, the operators are normal.

An avalanche of 300 meters crashed last Thursday in the Hotel Säntis on Schwägalp AR. A lot of snow breaks through the window of the dining room, filling it up to the ceiling.

Miraculously, nobody dies because of the masses of snow. Only three people are slightly injured (reported Blick).

Yesterday, Hotel Säntis almost seems like the catastrophe has never happened. Hikers are back to stop at the restaurant – and the hotel is now open again.

Re-opening before thought

"Everything went much faster than I could have imagined: 200 helpers have untiringly shifted and freed the room by hand from the snow," says CEO Bruno Vattioni (61).

Damage in the restaurant is not visible to guests at first sight. However, they clearly state: "We are talking about several hundred thousand francs here, especially the destroyed windows and the frame structures are of great importance," says Jürg Solèr (55) from the insurance company of Ausserrhoden.

Guests can cancel reservations for free

The surveys on the formation of the mega-avalanche are still in full swing. For now there are no immediate measures, also because it is presumed an event of the century. The last time there had been a similar avalanche before in 1942.

Guests who do not feel confident about Schwägalp can cancel their reservations for free, as confirmed by Bruno Vattioni BLICK. Not only because of the imminent repairs, he and his team should be able to follow the days of chaos on Schwägalp for some time.

"We are all still very tense, and it will certainly take a few days before we have digested all this," said the head. In any case, they are really relaxed on Schwägalp only when the snow has disappeared. And finally, let's say nobody really cares.
