A move to Bayern could fail because of this

In the Champions League, Gladbach must tremble for progress and, according to the media, also for two top performers. But a possible transfer depends above all on one person.

According to “Sport Bild”, Bayern are already working on the squad for next season and, according to the magazine, would like two players from Borussia Mönchengladbach: Florian Neuhaus and Denis Zakaria. Both have distinguished themselves with excellent performances this and last season and are central elements in the game of Borussia. But how realistic is it if the two foals move to the Munich team? t-online looked into the situation.

Florian Neuhaus has just become a national player. On 7 October he made his DFB debut in a 3-3 match against Turkey. National team coach Löw then praised him, saying: “The future belongs to him”. In decisive Nations League matches, however, Neuhaus was only replaced in the 6-0 defeat to Spain. So the 23-year-old is not yet part of Joachim Löw’s first selection.

However, the appointment was a reward for the constant performance development. In 2017 Neuhaus moved from 1860 Munich to the Lower Rhine, free of charge. But he was assigned directly to Düsseldorf for one season. There the central midfielder made 29 games and scored six goals. Since then, Neuhaus has become a regular player in the Gladbach system and, according to his own statements, has taken another step forward by moving to the position of six.

Neuhaus: “I don’t want to commit myself”

As a result, there were already rumors of a change in the direction of Munich last year. Not only current Bayern manager Hansi Flick, Niko Kovač should have already been interested. In November 2020, the man from Gladbach commented on a possible future for Bayern at “Spox”: “I don’t want to commit myself. FC Bayern are a great club. […] My father is also a huge Bayern fan. But I’m a Borussia Mönchengladbach player and I don’t focus on anything else. “

Denis Zakaria should also be on the wish list of record champions. The Swiss national team player joined Niederrhein from BSC Young Boys in 2017 for € 12 million. The defensive specialist has become an important pillar in Gladbach’s game and has almost always been in the starting line-up. But the 24-year-old is also prone to injury. After a muscle fiber tear and internal ligament injury in 2018, the Swiss resigned in March 2020 due to a knee injury. Zakaria only got in shape at the end of November. But Zakaria has almost returned to her old form. A quality that will certainly be appreciated in Munich. But Zakaria is also linked to Gladbach in the long term, until 2022.

Both Gladbachers could be expensive

For the Munich people, signing the two foals would be expensive. “Sport Bild” estimates a transfer fee of 40 million euros for Neuhaus and, according to “Transfermarkt.de”, Zakaria currently has a market value of 40 million euros. The most expensive transfer from Monaco this season was Leroy Sané. This cost 45 million euros in relocation costs. Bayern’s management spent a total of 62 million euros and only got the money back by selling Thiago. From a financial point of view, a change is only likely if those in charge of the record champions want to end the course of austerity. But Bayern coach Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said last year “The trend is clear! We must be careful that the wage structure does not become unbalanced. The magnitudes are enormous” and reiterated his position in view of the Crown- Pandemic in April. “When this crisis is over, we are obliged to take seriously the fact that certain things have come back with a sense of proportion.”

Neuhaus and Zakaria would be good additions for Bavaria

From a sporting point of view, signing Denis Zakaria for Bayern would make perfect sense. Not many players appear nominally in the squad in the defensive midfield: Javi Martínez, whose contract expires at the end of the season, Joshua Kimmich, currently injured, Marc Roca, who has only played three appearances, and Angelo Stiller, who is only 19. Gladbach’s Zakaria would certainly be a reinforcement in this position and with the defensive forces of the Lower Rhine, the Munich team have already had good experiences with Brazilian Dante. Florian Neuhaus, on the other hand, would have a little more competition and should prevail over Leon Goretzka and Corentin Tolisso. However, according to “Sport Bild”, Tolisso’s future at Bayern is uncertain. Neuhaus could be a suitable substitute and is still an attractive national player for Bayern.

Gladbach’s sports director is bothered by the rumors

But Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl should accept a change of the two Borussia. The manager formed Borussia Mönchengladbach into a top-tier squad with smart buying and selling. The former professional footballer has also managed to keep the squad together for the current season. No key player left the club, instead the team was reinforced, often on loan.

Eberl: “It’s always too fast for me”

When asked about the rumors about Neuhaus, Eberl reacted clearly in early November to the “Sportbuzzer”: “Why not just say:” Hey, nice! Something is developing in Gladbach. “Why shouldn’t a Florian Neuhaus stay with us?! Meanwhile, the reflection is always:” Good game, good development, where does it go? “It always happens too fast for me.” Eberl went on to say: “Flo knows what she has with us. She plays with Gladbach at the highest level in the Champions League.” But even Max Eberl says he is aware that his own athletes will eventually move on to bigger clubs.

Whether this is the case with Zakaria and Neuhaus by next season will also depend on Eberl’s long-term strategy. But if Bayern were actually willing to pay the supposedly large sums, Max Eberl would have a hard time saying no.
