Police said the child will not be prosecuted because of his age but said he had opened an investigation to determine how he got the gun.

A six-year-old boy was arrested as he entered the garden where he was studying, in Columbus, Ohio (USA) with a heavy object in his trousers.

After being alerted by an alarm bell, the asylum officers looked for him and when they checked him they found a loaded firearm.

"The child will not be prosecuted because of his age," said the police, who nevertheless opened an investigation to determine how he got the gun.

Bringing firearms is a constitutional right in the United States, where a third of adults claim to have at least one firearm.

Nearly 40,000 people die each year from gunshots, crimes, accidents or suicides with firearms.

Since January 1, 521 people have been shot dead (excluding suicide) in the United States, and 98 minors have been killed or injured by bullets, according to the file on the Gun Violence website.
