Biden: It’s time for us to unite as a nation

In the tone of a president-elect, he said he will face the covid-19 pandemic from day one of his term.

Joe Biden, ever closer to winning the White House, on Friday 6-N vowed to unite a deeply polarized country, saying he was confident he would defeat Donald Trump, who had previously warned him not to claim victory.

In a speech from his fiefdom in Wilmington, Delaware, the Democratic candidate reiterated that he will defeat the Republican president, as slow scrutiny advanced in his favor three days after election day.

“It is time for us to unite as a nation,” Biden said along with his running mate, Kamala Harris, after a tense election campaign and a Trump administration that fostered division.

And, with the tone of the president-elect, he assured that he will not waste time dealing with the covid-19 pandemic, which for the third consecutive day recorded a new peak of over 127,000 infections in the United States, the most affected country in the world.

“From day one we will implement our plan to control this virus,” he said, stressing that he had analyzed an increasingly “worrying” situation with experts.

In the campaign, Biden focused his criticism on Trump for handling the pandemic, which leaves more than 236,000 dead and more than 20 million unemployed in the United States.

Biden said he is already preparing to take office. “I want people to know that we are not waiting to get the job done,” he said in his speech.

Inexorable growth

Late Friday Biden, 77, continued to grow relentlessly against Trump in Pennsylvania, which would have won him 20 crucial electoral votes cross the threshold of 270 required in the Electoral College to win.

In its home state, it was leading with nearly 29,000 votes and, according to analysts, the trend was definitive.

Biden, who amassed at least 253 national electoral votes, was also improving in Georgia (which would have given him 16 electoral votes), Nevada (6) and Arizona (11). In the latter, the gap narrowed slightly, but less than Republicans expected.

In Georgia, where the Democrats have not won since 1992, the gap was so narrow that a recount was announced.

Biden predicted he will win in these four states.

Trump recedes

Trump’s lead waned in several states as mail-order votes were counted, in record numbers this year due to the pandemic, and which mainly favored Biden.

With a total of 214 electoral votes, Trump led the race only in North Carolina (15) and Alaska (3), the other states where a winner has yet to be permanently screened.

Hours earlier, the president, who had declared himself the winner prematurely hours after the polls closed on November 3, had said that his rival should not claim a victory “wrongly”, stressing that he too could claim it.

“The prosecution has just begun!”, He tweeted.

The Trump campaign has initiated multiple lawsuits in various states for alleged fraud, but with no evidence of serious incidents. These claims, which Democrats say are unfounded, could delay official approval of the results for days or weeks.

The Electoral Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) said it had not observed “any serious irregularities” and called for “harmful speculation” to be avoided.

In his preliminary report, he considered “critical” that “candidates act responsibly by making and arguing legitimate claims in court and not unfounded speculation in the media.”
