Blacklist "Ethereum" reported by Google as a Google ad keyword, boot claims

Google (Alphabet Inc.) reported having put the blacklisted keywords citing Ethereum (ETH) on its Google Ads advertising platform, intelligent contract audit startup Decenter tweeted January 10th.

The official Google Ads account responded to the tweet stating that cryptocurrency exchanges targeting the United States and Japan can be advertised on the platform and that targeting of other countries may be the reason for the rejection of the announcement.

When Decenter has explained who are a group of developers who perform intelligent controls on contract security and who were viewing the error message when trying to use the keywords "ethereum development services" and "ethereum security audit", the official Google Ads account he answered:

"While we would not be able to confirm beforehand if your keyword is suitable for generating advertisements, we recommend that you refer to the" Cryptocurrencies "section of our financial products and services policy."

When Decenter asked the Ethereum community on Reddit in an open query about alleged changes to Google Ads policies, the team specified that:

"All keywords that contain" ethereum "in our campaigns will no longer serve ads starting January 9 and now report the following error."

The Reddit workstation at Decenter also explained that they tested the keywords for "smart ethereum contract audit" and "eos smart contract audit" and found that only the keyword with EOS showed ads.

The main comment on Reddit's post criticizes the position of Google as a neutral third party, stating:

"Google has various political and economic programs, and they are quite willing to use their various services to promote their preferences, and AdSense and Youtube are known for this, but there have also been some incidents involving the Play Store."

As Cointelegraph reported in March last year, Google banned all cryptocurrency advertising of all types in June 2018, according to a recent update of their financial services policy.

However, Google announced in September 2018 that it would change its advertising policy in October, causing some cryptographic companies to advertise on its platform. That is to say, the changes allow for cryptocurrency trade announcements in the United States and Japan.

Recently, Cointelegraph reported that the Bitcoin wallet supplier (BTC) Samourai Wallet needed to disable some of its security features in order to continue distributing its software on the Google Play Store.
